It is hard to write a summary of my thoughts regarding Twin Peaks: The Return.

Twin Peaks had a big impact on me growing up, from seeing it as a child (different times folks haha) to gaining a greater appreciation of the show and Fire Walk With Me as I got older and discovered the magic of David Lynch. Lynch is a filmmaker (amongst other artisitc merits) who is without equal, no other filmmaker can make you feel a sense of horror and wonder, often within seconds of oneanother. At the end of Fire Walk With Me, Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) was told by Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee) they would see one another again in twenty five years. Fans felt this reunion would never come, thankfully Lynch, Mark Frost and the whole cast did keep their promise.

This may not be a long write up because I do not want to post any spoilers. That said, if you are a fan of Twin Peaks and have not watched the new season yet then I will say this; do not expect the same show from twenty odd years ago. Instead expect more horror, strange goings on, mystery and magic. You will get questions answered and at the same time those that are not. This is not Law and Order, do not go into it expecting a clean narrative resolution. If you think that sounds frustrating then perhaps you should stick to the original two seasons. If you thought they were weird and too mysterious for thier own good then folks you have not seen anything yet.

The cast is massive. Returing Twin Peaks residents remind us why we fell in love with the town to begin with. Newcommers (and there are a lot of new characters) fit into the world of Twin Peaks as if they had been there from the begininng. Laura Dern, Naomi Watts, Robert Foster, Chrysta Bell, Robert Knepper and James Belushi are just a few of the new additions to the cast along with a few surprises I was not expecting that I don’t want to reveal here.

At times Twin Peaks: The Return felt like a dream that would turn into a nightmare and back again. I have not seen anything like this on television before and I doubt I will again. Typically by the time the last episodes comes to a close you can say the road to Twin Peaks is closed or left open. Will Lynch, Frost and co. gear up for another visit to America’s strangest town? Only they know the answer to that, speaking of answers if this is the end it has been one hell of a ride and I am grateful to all involved I got to go along for the ride as a viewer. Wow.
